Scanning

makes the radio search for you and stop on signals. The IC-R5 has full scan (ALL), scan (BAND), programmed scan between two edges (PROG) and memory and bank scans. The decides what counts as a signal: set it just past the noise, or the scan stops everywhere.

Choose a scan type

Hold MODE for 1 second. The display shows the type.

Keep the mouse button (or your finger) down on the key until the radio reacts.
